Simon says, Simon is home after 33 days on an adventure!Simon snuck out from his Parkville home on Jan 25, when a cleaning person had the door open. Carol reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG for help. Posters went up and a feeding station went up at the house. After five days with no sightings, Carol reached out to K9 Carly to help search. K9 Carly took the scent article and was off and tracking. Carly tracked around the neighborhood and then circled in the woods behind the house a couple of times. Believing that Simon was still in the neighborhood and close to home we did our checks and found that all paths led to the woods around her house.Looking at the map, we worked on getting more posters out. A couple of days later a neighbor right on the track path said they saw a new orange cat so we put a camera and trap out, put mackerel in the trap and saw Simon walked by the trap twice and then he stopped showing up.A couple of more sightings in the area, but Simon kept moving. Then a nice woman right behind the house saw the poster and said that she had been feeding Simon for about three weeks. So we rushed a trap and camera out and tried sardines instead of mackerel. Catching a raccoon, we let him out, and used the dog food that the woman feeding him had been putting outThis time Simon comes to the trap checks it out and finally goes in to eat the dog food thankfully after more than a month Simon is home with Mom and his cat brother where he belongs.Another good job for K9 Carly and patience to bring Simon home.To volunteer or donate, www.largcares.org#k9carly ... Koji is safe at home today after 2 days out!He had gotten out in Mertztown PA while being walked, there was a fall and he took off. A search party followed and he kept running almost 2 miles. Roberta Fuchs knew she had to get in touch with Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG to help. We IMMEDIATELY let them know that everyone had to come in, No Searching, Calling, Following, Looking, But to let him settle. Within an hour after the search parties stopped, he showed up less than a mile from home.Being an Amish puppy mill dog, we knew he was skittish, had been abused and treated horribly by the Amish puppy mill breeders so we had to be very careful and go slowly. We let mom @Courtney Moyer know about Survival Mode in dogs and Calming Signals for dogs. These terms are so important to understand with lost pets and can make the difference between a recovered pet and a lost pet.Courtney saw Koji near home even though he had only been in the home for a week. She tried the calming signals but Koji trotted away. Feeling a little discouraged, she was thinking of a trap but we know that calming signals take time. I encouraged her to take her time, don’t make eye contact and just be calm. And then the best news!! I GOT HIM!!!!Thank you for all your guidance! It took some time to get a hold of him but the calming signals worked wonders! It always feels great when we can coach someone to get their lost pet to come to them so they don’t need the stress of a trap or the expense of a track when it totally isn’t necessary, especially when there are sightings. To volunteer or donate, www.largcares.org ... Ruby is home (in New York!) after getting out near the Whitemarsh mall in Baltimore on Feb 7!She snuck out of the car when mom Hannah Keenan stopped on the parking lot. Mom saw Ruby bolt around the shopping center but couldn’t find her baby. Posts on fb went out and DawnMarie Peninsula Colony Cats and Bobbie Nicole started to help. Hannah also reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARGThis was behind a Giant food store but also right on a very busy road and not very safe for a little 6lb cat to run. Hannah came back to search and saw Ruby so we knew she was in the area. I reached out to Dawn and Bobbie to see if they needed help.We rushed a trap and camera out on the 10th in the hopes of catching Ruby. Mackerel was in the trap and the camera was set. Miss Ruby didn’t disappoint us and showed up around 11pm. She went almost all the way in the trap but not far enough to trigger it. Of course then another 3 cats visited. The next night, we refreshed the food and met the family that drove down from NY to look and I showed them how to manage the trap. They said that Ruby liked sardines so they went and got some, put it in the trap along with some of their clothes. That night around 9, Ruby showed up and went halfway in the trap and just sat there 😞A little later another cat showed up, Ruby leaves and that cat gets trapped. We took that cat to the shelter to get TNR and will be returned to that area. Thank you Baltimore County Animal ServicesLast night, I reset the trap with sardines and waited, Ruby shows up around 11:30, and finally goes all the way in! I rushed out to get her and bring her into the house where K9 Carly was fascinated by her and Ruby was meowing for mommy. Hannah drives down early morning to come get her baby and arrives at 5:45. Ruby and mom were so happy to see each other. Thank you to everyone that helpedTo volunteer or donate, www.largcares.org ... See MoreSee Less

📣 Baltimore, MD - Little Sven is home, safe & warm after a 5 day adventure! The 8-month-old kitten slipped out of the house on 2/6/24 when the trash was being taken out. Amy & Jake reached out to LARG the next day & immediately began following all instructions. Scent from home went out, along with yummy mackerel and wet cat food. Sven was seen on the neighbor’s front porch Ring camera, and “something” ate the food in the back! Denise took a trap & camera out, & we waited. That night Sven visited, but only walked around the trap & didn’t go in. The next night, more smelly mackerel with the juice/oil dripped all over the back yard & driveway! Sven couldn’t resist. He stayed very close, this time entering the trap, but still not going in far enough to trip the door closed. He must have strrreettched just enough to eat the food. 🐱 But he hung around long enough to decide that 5️⃣ days was long enough to be out in the cold. In the morning he was screaming at the door to come in. We think he was screaming for more mackerel! Welcome home sweet boy! ❤️🐾Lost Animal Resource Group - LARGG #LARGcares #bringthemhome #Reunite #BestPractices #mackerel ... See MoreSee Less

Not a LARG case, but here’s a sad story about what happens way too often when a scared dog is chased. 😥‼️When we say “do not chase,” it’s not just routine instruction. It is life or death for the poor lost animal. Don’t try to be a hero. IGNORE the dog & report sightings. #largcares #keepthemsafe #ignoreandreport #neverchase #educateThis is not the news we wanted to share. Everyone is devastated. All dogs that join the pack matter. Never doubt that. -AlyssaFrom Katie: I don’t think anything prepares you for this kind of a post. We have found our lost dog. Unfortunately she was hit by a car and didn’t make it. She has crossed the rainbow bridge. To say we are devastated is an understatement. There truly aren’t words to describe this feeling. Thank you to everyone who has been a huge help. People have been walking trails and driving at all hours— passing out signs and flyers. Sharing the posts. In all kinds of dangerous weather conditions Thank you. To my PPRI team— you are amazing. Thank you for braving all hours and all kinds of crazy winter weather. For donating time away from your families and money to collect supplies we needed. I am so proud of how hard WE worked as a team. I’m honored to be in rescue with you. 🚨 PSA time. 🚨 This happened because she was chased. Multiple reports and I even saw 1 with my own eyes. ⭐️DO NOT CHASE A LOOSE DOG!!⭐️ She was constantly in survival flight mode and was accidentally chased from our trap zones. Because someone had to be a hero. I understand the desire to help and to think it is a help. But it is not. And the outcome keeps a dog in survival mode, not thinking clearly, in dangerous situations, making bad, impulsive choices. Thank you to Meadowbrook Veterinary Clinic for being so gentle with us this morning as I looked a hot ass mess sobbing. Also shout out to Dr. Dearman (Dunlap Superintendent ) for calling me with a sighting from yesterday and being completely compassionate as I bawled on the phone explaining the outcome. I love that my boss is a dog guy! I am grateful for closure as I would have followed any lead to the ends of the earth to get this dog back. The foster dogs and adopted dogs that are or have been in our care are treated like family. We do our best to stand by them, protect, and care for them. They are NEVER just “a dog”, no matter how long we have known them. For now we are beyond broken hearted. But stay tuned because once we mend, we will be doing something in memory of Squirt. The girl I couldn’t save. 😭💔. Rest in eternal peace. I am so sorry. Please forgive me. ... See MoreSee Less

📣 Cockeysville MD - JoJo is home, safe and warm after her 14 day adventure!JoJo had run out through a crack in the door and took off running on Jan 8. She was seen hiding under a car that same day but couldn’t be caught. And then no sightings of her 😞Her mom Paula, desperate for her baby reached out to LARG, and Denise started coaching on posters and a feeding station at the house. Posters went up but still no sign of her.Now with really cold weather, a few rain storms, Paula reached out to Bob Swensen & K9 Carly to help with the search. Carly followed JoJo’s scent back in the woods, all around the walking paths near Loch Raven and then back towards the original sighting area, including power lines!A plan of action began for more posters in Carly’s target area. Then came 2 snowstorms with several inches of snow each, along with frigid temperatures. Paula was getting more desperate, but she was following our advice and doing a good job.👍🏼LARG brought a trap and camera out, but there was no sign of JoJo. Then a neighbor got in touch that they saw her in their backyard playing in the snow. ❄️ At last a sighting - a week after loss and 2 days after K9 Carly’s track! We went over yesterday to move the trap to where she had been seen playing, and waited. Hoping she would come in the afternoon, but that was not in the plan. Then a fox ran by the trap and then a little while later, a pair of eyes 👀 peeked into the trap & then disappeared. Two minutes later, JoJo showed up in the trap and was busy eating all of the food. She was making her way all the way back into the trap for the rest of the food and finally she was caught‼️Bob quickly got in touch with Amie (who we helped with her dog Olive & lives right down the street), and she and her husband and son came out to help carry the trap up the steep snowy hill to the waiting car, and then back to Paula‘s house for the happiest reunion. Paula is following recommendations like double leashing , watching the door and getting JoJo used to regular food. It was a happy, tearful reunion but a great one. Does anyone recognize this sweet boy? This sweet but scared pup had been running in Armistead Garden area in Baltimore for at least a week but ran from everyone. Lori Cefaloni Mitchell and Madison Mitchell had been trying to catch him and even had him in a yard but he got spooked and jumped. He would run or walk away from anyone that got close. They reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG for help and we had been trying to bring a trap but with the snow and weather and van brakes it took longer than we thought. Today we were able to bring a trap, set it literally a few feet from him, he was laying down and not moving. We were afraid he was hurt or sick but he definitely was wary of us so we didn’t want to push him or confront him. We wanted him to come on his own.We set the trap with Royal Farms chicken and liquid smoke and waited. Unfortunately the camera didn’t connect and go live in time but as we were standing in the front of the house (the trap was in the back) Lori and Madison said they heard something so we went and looked and sure enough he was in the trap!He was very nervous at first and judging by the poop where he had been staying, he clearly had some digestive issues 😞We carried him in the trap into Lori and Madison’s house to let him decompress. He was fine with other dogs and cats and let us pet him in the trap and hand feed him. Then a great guy Andrew DrapeDog German came over to transport him to BARCS. When he arrived, we opened the trap and “Ace” came out and was happy to eat, drink and be loved and petted. Unfortunately, as we were checking him out in the trap, we noticed many scars and possible cigar burns. clearly, he had had some very rough time and maybe abuse, but was so happy and thankful to be safe. This very sweet and gentle boy just needs a second chance with a family that will love him and not hurt him. Just from seeing his behavior from getting trapped to getting out of the trap and going with the transporter. I believe he is such a sweet and loving pup and just wants a great family to love him.he is at BARCS, so please keep an eye out for him. He will be an amazing addition to a family and will absolutely give so much more love than he getsTo volunteer or donate, please go to our website at www.largcares.org. ... See MoreSee Less

📣 Columbia MD - Luna is home after a 2️⃣ day adventure! Samantha was visiting from NY at her mom’s Columbia MD home with her rescue dog Luna. While Sam was out on Saturday morning, the back door was opened briefly, and Luna ran off!🆘 Sam reached out to LARG, and immediately started putting into practice the tips that she was sent. ✅ Yummy food & scent from home (Sam’s worn clothes) were placed outside at the point of loss. Flyers went up in the area, and the sightings started coming in. Luna was moving very quickly, and, of course, running from anyone who approached. We set up a trap and monitoring camera at the house today, because sightings were getting closer to home. 👀 Every time we thought we knew where she was settling, she would head off to a new spot. 🐾We explained how a magnet dog might work, since Luna always enjoyed playing with larger male dogs at the park. So Sam and her brother went out with his dog Anubis when a new sighting came in today. Luna came running excitingly, sniffing Anubis. As instructed, Sam and her brother just ignored her for a minute. They didn’t approach Luna or call out to her. Soon Sam brought out some treats for the pups, and was able to grab Luna. 🙌🏼Welcome back, Luna! ❤️🐾❤️So happy we could help!
